T in the Park 2009 Tickets go on sale this week

Rock icons REM will shortly close T in the Park 2008 with a stunning headline set that will no doubt bring a tear to the eye of 80,000 music fans. As T in the Park’s 15th year draws to a close, festival organisers Big Day Out Ltd and founding partners Tennent’s Lager remind music lovers that early bird tickets for next year’s event, which takes place at Balado from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th July 2009 go on sale on this Tuesday, 15th July at NOON.

This year saw 180 artists perform over 12 stages over three days and included spectacular headline performances from The Verve, Rage Against The Machine and REM. A rapturous reception was give to each and every artist from the Main Stage through the Slam Tent to the T Break Stage and a particularly warm welcome was offered to Scots heroes Biffy Clyro who broke T in the Park’s performance record in playing an awe-inspiring seventh set.

The glamorous Sharleen Spiteri played an outstanding three song afternoon acoustic set including a resounding rendition of The Killers ‘All The Things That I’ve Done’ and Paolo Nutini made a very special guest appearance on the T Break Stage under the name Snake Derrick & The Vipers. Amy Winehouse wowed the Main Stage crowd, apologising for missing her performance at last year’s festival, but certainly making up for it this weekend.

The campsite swung into action a whole day early this year on Thursday and Fancy Dress Friday proved a roaring success with everyone from Superman to the Smurfs being spotted in the campsite.

Away from the stages the newly expanded Healthy T area offered festival-goers the opportunity to sample amazing foods including sushi, noodle soups, risottos and delights from Foods From Argyll whilst indulging in a selection of holistic therapies, relaxing in the Bedouin tea tent or being entertained by performances by Mischief La Bas.

With such a wealth of excitement to look forward to next year, T in the Parkers should make sure that they are on the phones and internet sharp on Tuesday.

Spirits were high at Scotland’s biggest festival as nearly 85,000 music fans geared up for the headline acts.

The majority of music fans managed to stay dry at T in the Park at Balado, Kinross-shire, and even the overcast weather could not dull the atmosphere.

Top acts include Glasgow favourites The Fratellis and Rage Against the Machine on the Main Stage, and Kaiser Chiefs, The Raconteurs and indie band The Pigeon Detectives on the Radio 1/NME stage.

The sun finally broke out as the Leeds band opened their energetic act with This is an Emergency and I Found Out.

The Pigeon Detective’s drummer Jimmi Naylor said: “One of our own gigs is a lot closer, people can even get on the stage at our gigs. But this is a much bigger scale and it’s a very different atmosphere. It’s really good and we really like festivals.

“Last year we did T in the Park and it was the best festival we did for atmosphere with people going mad. The Scottish crowd are very good and very mental.”

Elsewhere The Kooks got a roaring welcome as they took to the Main Stage, belting out hits such as Shine On.

Revellers continued to enjoy the festival, with the late arrival of the sunshine boosting the mood.

Sarah Lawson 24, from Fife said: “We went and saw Biffy Clyro and they were amazing, I love the lead singer. I’m actually having to leave tomorrow morning because I’m going on holiday. Amy Winehouse is meant to be appearing but I wasn’t sure if she was going to turn up.”

Jimmy Hodge, 28, from Clydebank: “We saw Kate Nash today and Stereophonics last night. It’s been great so far. Tomorrow it’s Amy Winehouse for me although usually we just go the Slam Tent.”
