Their summer 2009 tour will start in Manchester’s Heaton Park on 6 June and include gigs at The Stadium Of Light, Sunderland, Slane Castle in Dublin, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and Murrayfield in Edinburgh before culminating with two performances at Wembley Stadium. Tickets go on sale at 10am(BST).
Noel Gallagher said the tour would be so big it would overshadow the Glastonbury festival.
“I wouldn’t bother [going to Glastonbury]. This is where it’s gonna be at next summer, I’d have thought,” said the guitarist.
“These gigs are easily going to be the biggest gigs of next year if not the decade. These are the concerts that [will] go down in people’s memories and this is where people will meet future wives. We’re bang up for it.”
Gallagher admitted that they had never managed to deliver an era-defining performance at Glastonbury.
“We said the last time we’ve done Glastonbury, we’ve never really pulled it off I don’t think,” he said.
“We always blow the big gigs.
“It’s great to be at but it’s not really great for people like us to play at because you don’t go on until eleven o’clock at night, and all the people that you’re with by five to eleven are absolutely battered. So by the time you get off at half twelve you’re just trying to play catch up and make sense of what your girlfriend is saying.”
