Kenny Dalglish tipped to be new ireland manager
Kenny Dalglish is being hotly tipped to be the new Ireland Manager even though he has not even applied for the job.
A flood of money was put on Dalglish on Wednesday and some bookmakers in Dublin even suspended betting on the Scotsman taking over from Stephen Staunton after his odds were slashed from 14-1 to 4-1
Odds on Dalglish succeeding Steve Staunton in the Ireland hotseat were cut from 28/1 to 2/1 favourite by one firm on Wednesday, while another suspended betting altogether on the four-time English league winning manager.
Terry Venables and Liam Brady are still regarded as the front-runners, although talk of fan unrest at Wolves means the prospect of a second stint in charge for Mick McCarthy is an intriguing possibility.
David Fairclough an ex team mate said
“In some ways a country like Ireland don’t have the right to expect to be competing against the bigger nations year-on-year. That’s asking a great deal, but the expectation of the public is enormous and he is one of the people who could cope with it.”
Who will be the next Republic of Ireland manager? (Betfair); 3-1 Venables, 3-1 Dalglish, 5-1 Brady, 9-1 O’Leary, 9-1 Hoddle, 20-1 Coppell, 25-1 Houllier, 25-1 Sanchez, 25-1 Giles, 33-1 others
An interesting twist to FA Cup betting comes from totesport in the form of group betting in finding the winner.
