A flood of money was put on Dalglish on Wednesday and some bookmakers in Dublin even suspended betting on the Scotsman taking over from Stephen Staunton after his odds were slashed from 14-1 to 4-1
Odds on Dalglish succeeding Steve Staunton in the Ireland hotseat were cut from 28/1 to 2/1 favourite by one firm on Wednesday, while another suspended betting altogether on the four-time English league winning manager.
Terry Venables and Liam Brady are still regarded as the front-runners, although talk of fan unrest at Wolves means the prospect of a second stint in charge for Mick McCarthy is an intriguing possibility.
